Fremantle Language Development Centre (LDC) is an Independent Public School that provides high quality specialist education for Kindergarten to Year 3 students who have been identified as having a Developmental Language Disorder. We consist of a school and a state-wide Outreach service and provide targeted, intensive language and academic intervention in a supportive environment that focuses on the social, emotional and academic growth of students.

Our Fremantle LDC school is located across three sites where facilities are shared with local primary schools, enabling children from the LDC to benefit from interaction and inclusion with mainstream students.


Language Development Centres do not have local intake areas. Students are likely to be placed at a campus nearest to their residential address.

Our main campus is our Willagee site, co-located with Caralee Community School

The aim is to return children to mainstream education when they demonstrate age-appropriate speech, language, social skills and the ability to participate academically.

Our Outreach Service supports mainstream primary school teachers in the South Metropolitan Region, Pilbara and West Kimberley regions with students who have speech and language delays or difficulties and:

* are enrolled in K – Year 2 and do not attend an LDC/LDS, or

* previously attended an LDC and have exited into a mainstream setting (PP-Year 4)

Highgate Primary School is one of the oldest schools in the Perth metropolitan area with a rich and vibrant history. Highgate Primary School is less than 2 kilometres north from the centre of Perth city. The school is bounded by Lincoln Street, Bulwer Avenue, Bulwer Street and Grant Street.


Highgate Primary School opened on 1 November 1895 with 80 children. Buildings were then added as the student population grew. By 1897 there were so many children a separate Infants’ School needed to be built. The Infants’ School was eventually built in 1899. In 1975, the Infants’ and Senior schools were amalgamated to form Highgate Primary School.


To accommodate a rapidly growing student population, many additions have been made to the school. In 1999, the Undercover Area was built. In 2001, and in 2008, a new library was opened. In 2011, new additions to the school include a purpose built art room and new classrooms located behind the assembly area.


In 2017, work was completed on a new double storey, eight classroom, special purpose built early childhood centre.
