4worldlovers: Prepare to embrace the beast within with Johnny Romeo’s viciously vibrant rendition of notorious Mexican gangster Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman in Bullet Proof Flow.

The painting marks the soft launch of the new Southcamp Brewhouse in Dunsborough. Bursting with explosive bubble-gum colours and bold Pop imagery, the painting is a fun sugar rush that pits the world’s most powerful drug kingpin against the ocean’s deadliest creature, the great white shark.

Romeo’s clever mash-up of El Chapo and the shark perfectly encapsulates the drug lord’s reputation as an apex predator during his reign as the infamous leader of the Sinaloa cartel. Prior to his capture and arrest in 2016, El Chapo was renowned for his uncanny ability to survive intense shootouts and escape from the clutches of the law, a point highlighted with sly wit in the work’s title Bullet Proof Flow.

At the same time, the title cleverly nods to Southcamp Brewhouse’s refreshing selection of taps by toying with the double entendre of ‘flow’ as both a state of mind and the physical flow of mexican beer. Romeo rounds off the painting on a delectably visceral note with the punchy word assemblage ‘Beast Hold Mode’. The phrase alludes to the aggressive nature of the shark, who if unleashed would surely grab you in a ‘beast hold’.

On a more upbeat note, the word assemblage is a slick tip of the hat to Southcamp Brewhouse entering its own ‘beast mode’ to become a bright new player in the Perth craft beer scene.
