Kadampa Meditation Centre Perth is a modern, not-for-profit meditation centre located in the heart of East Fremantle. The Centre is run entirely by volunteers.


We hold weekly meditation classes, weekend workshops, and a range of retreats which are suitable for everyone; as well as in-depth study programs for people who want to deepen their understanding of Buddha’s teachings.

Our meditation room is quiet, carpeted and air-conditioned. Seating is available on comfortable chairs, and the Centre is wheelchair accessible.

Meditation enables you to unwind, relax, let go of worry and improve your overall sense of wellbeing. Through training in meditation it’s possible to gradually reduce and eliminate the negative states of mind that cause our unhappiness and replace them with positive, peaceful states.


We hold classes in a number of locations throughout Perth, including our Centre in East Fremantle. These classes are suitable for all levels of interest and experience, from simple guided meditations through to in-depth Buddhist studies.

With a genuine intention of hoping ‘to create a group of people who would brighten the Order of the Gautama Buddha’ the meritorious premises named ‘the Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery’ originated for the wellbeing of both human and deity worlds since the foundation stone was laid by the hands of Most Ven. Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thero on August 14th, 1999. The Mahamevnawa became one of the famous Buddhist monasteries in Sri Lanka and as well as in other countries around the world, only within twelve years of the short time period since the monastery was started.

Mahamevnawa Buddhist Meditation Monastery of Perth (Sri Lankan Buddhist Temple in Perth) with the sole intention of benefiting Sri Lankans as well as everyone else. Our monthly Sil programs, pirith chantings, Bodhi vandana, Dhatu vandana, for Sri Lankan children, as well as social activities for the betterment of our motherland; are held for Sri Lankan devotees residing in this country. This is a full-day program held on the 1st Sunday of each month from 8.00 am to 4.30 pm at the Maddington Community Centre, 19 Alcock St, Maddington, WA 6109. This program includes the observance of the Eight Precepts, Buddha Puja, Dhamma sermons, Meditation, and Dhamma discussions. ons and various meritorious activities throughout the day.

This program is targeted at helping to develop wholesome qualities and nourishing one’s life with Dhamma, and is conducted with the participation of members of the Thawathinsa Yathra Organization. This program, especially targeted at the youth and also open to all others, is held on the 3rd Sunday of every month from 9. oo am to 10.30 am at the Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery of Perth. This Dhamma program, which is held in addition to the social service activities conducted by Thawathinsa Yathra Organization, is held in the Sinhala language and is open to anyone willing to join.

The International Meditation Centre in Western Australia was founded in 1978 to promote the practice of Buddhist Vipassana meditation as taught by the late Sayagyi U Ba Khin. The practice is aimed at developing a calm mind leading to the realisation of Nibbana.

From the time of the Buddha, over 2500 years ago, Buddhist meditation has mainly been practised within the monastic order.

Sayagyi U Ba Khin encountered the teachings as a layman and realised the importance of Buddhist meditation to modern man. He had a unique ability to teach lay people meditation. Sayagyi U Ba Khin became a highly respected meditation teacher in Burma. He taught students from all over the world until his demise in 1971.

Since then, his leading disciple Mother Sayamagyi has carried on the tradition. She has taught meditation for more than fifty years and has established further International Meditation Centres worldwide.

Ten-day residential meditation courses at IMC WA are held periodically throughout the year. They begin on a Friday evening and end early on a Monday morning. The courses are led by a regional teacher under the guidance of Mother Sayamagyi.
